Unknown to most, ninjas are the sworn enemy of fruit. They have dedicated their lives to snuffing out any and all sources of vitamin C with their lethal blades. Seriously, that’s the whole story behind Fruit Ninja, a wonderfully single-minded game from Half Brick.

All you do in this little game is swipe through flying fruit to cleave it in two while avoiding bombs as they, too, arc across the screen. If it sounds shallow, that’s because it is. But shallow isn’t necessarily a dirty word, especially when you’re talking about 99-cent games designed solely for the purpose of wasting a few minutes here and there. What surprises me most about Fruit Ninja? The laser precision of the controls. Really, Fruit Ninja is more exact than many Wii games. Your swipes are accurately registered, allowing you to slice through fruit with real precision. This makes giant combos easy, as you slash your finger directly through the heart of several fruit just as their trajectories intersect. On both a concept and technical level, Fruit Ninja is top notch. By the way, Fruit Ninja for Android is version 1.3.2 for the iPhone, so it includes all features such as Dojo, Classic, and Zen modes.
Fruit Ninja is fun, fun, fun. It&#Array;s an instant pleasure and one you can find yourself hooked to, determined to post the highest fruit-murdering scores on OpenFeint. What a great way to spend 99 cents &#Array; and a few hours.
